Extractions

There are many reasons why a tooth may need to be removed including trauma, severe decay or infection, and crowding (a lack of space in your mouth for all of your teeth). Wisdom teeth removal is also a leading reason for extractions, especially for teens and young adults.

Tooth extractions: What to expect

X-Rays

Our first step is taking X-Rays of the tooth to determine the condition of the surrounding bone and the position of the tooth’s roots beneath the gum line.

Clinical Review

The dentist examines the X-Rays to plan a tooth extraction and identify the best course of action for you.

Removal

Your dentist will apply a local or general anesthetic to ensure the tooth removal procedure is as comfortable and pain-free as possible. Gauze is applied once the tooth has carefully and gently been removed to minimize any bleeding. In some cases, a few small stitches may be needed to help gums heal quickly.
